Tampa Bay – Vipers

New York – Guardians

Seattle – Dragons

Los Angeles – Wildcats

Now we are back with Oliver Luck to announce Washingon DC.

Washington DC – Defenders

Laura Rutledge finishes up the announcements with both Texas teams.

Houston – Roughnecks

Dallas – Renegades

Olive Luck finishes the announcements by saying,

“February 2020 can’t come soon enough.”

You can watch the full announcement below;

Some notes

  • We had reported on five possible names for XFL Seattle and Dragons was one of them.
  • We did hear back two months ago about Defenders potentially being the DC name. But did not report on it.
  • Within the last two days, Vipers was a rumored name, but no one knew which team.
  • The XFL did a pretty good job keeping things hush hush.

What are your thoughts about these teams names? Leave a review in the comments. We would love to hear your feedback.

looks like it was set up for each team to have an instant rivalry.
    desperados – roughnecks
    defenders – guardians
not so sure on the combination of the next four?
    sky hawks – dragons (flight)
    wildcats – vipers (earthbound)(primitive)
    or
    sky hawks – Wildcats
    dragons – vipers.
or both either good names no complaints, as if it would make a difference, the one thing that through me was the gargoyle (guardians) get it, but what I dont get by looking at the helmet is why they put a screaming, rabid looking monkey on their helmet? and then call them guardians? oh well here is hoping that there is success for the xfl.

Good normal names, not a huge fan of Wildcats for LA as an identity, and Vipers is a bit bleh. But its better than the Verb nicknames like Force, Rage, Attack, etc., that don’t really match up with a region’s history.

I love the media that say the names are unexciting, but then they also complain if its too edgy and just promoting WWE or the old XFL immaturity. Plus BattleHawks were no.1 on one list and no.8 on another. You can’t win. And for some its just another excuse to politicize their anti-McMahon/Trump positions by ripping on the XFL. In two years we’ll see which seem to stick and which don’t.

Los Angeles Wildcats was the name of a road team that played in the first AFL for one season in the 1920s. It was actually based in Illinois but was a showcase for players from West Coast schools.

As for Roughnecks, I was hoping the Houston team would troll the Oilers in some way, and while the name hints at that, the logo kicks in the door.

Desperadoes is truly desperate. A failed Arena League name.

Gargoyles might have been more interesting than Guardians. But NYC is historically a city where teams are not named for animals.

Hey, who has the rights to the name “Tampa Bay Bandits”?

Since they dropped the ball on The Seattle name which should have been the surge(coffee reference) or Sasquatch. But since they went with Dragons they should at least tweek it to the Sea Dragons! It would market much better. There’s still time to create some cool SeaDragon merchandise! Come xfl lets create some real buzz! Marketing is everything!!!

Renegades??? it could have been worse! (Dragans) At least the colors are “BAD ASS!”
Houston’s name is cool! Colors are a rerun! Silver & Chartreuse would have been better! you couldn’t have missed who the team was for sure then?
    Right Orlando?

Defenders, the most boring, unimaginative nickname and logo. The name is ok, but the XFL screwed the pooch with the logo. A 4 year old with 3 crayons could have done better. As a DC native I was excited about the possibility. The logo and colors scheme took the air out of the enthusiasm.
