It has only been about a week since we got to see all of the XFL team names and logos and while everyone was excited to see what they kept so hush hush, there was one team in particular that people noticed something…familiar.
It seems the Dallas Renegades logo is quite the same as LA Renegades. While the colors differ it can’t really be disputed the similarities. They both have the cowboy hat and the bandanna covering their face and while there’s not much detail on the eyes of the XFL’s logo like the LA’s you can make out the same thing.
LA Renegades, according to Wikipedia are “a professional esports organization that fields teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, Paladins, Vainglory, Super Smash Bros., and Rocket League.” So they are professional gamer’s to narrow it down.
The person behind the logo, Christopher ‘MonteCristo’ Mykles, took to Twitter immediately after the names and logos announcement saying, “What the actual f***. The Dallas XFL team just straight up stole the @Renegades name and logo. That was my creative vision.” (I apologize, I cannot hide the actual word in the tweet!)
As you can read the anger in his voice he later tweets, “I sold the brand to @JonasJerebko, but he can sue them. Enjoy your big settlement, Jonas.” after he is told to contact an attorney by a fellow Twitter user.
So, do you think we will see a new team name or logo coming? Let me answer that. No! Now of course there are similarities between the two logos but, do this, google “renegades logo” and look through the images and tell me what you see? You will see a ton of logos from current or previous teams named the Renegades with something similar to theirs also, that being a cowboy hat and bandanna covering the face. What else can you expect from a name like “The Renegades” really?
If you’ve seen the articles covering this over the net and are concerned about it, I’ll say this, do you really think the office at XFL and creative teams didn’t do diligent research on all the logos? They’ve sunk in over half a billion dollars into this league and I can guarantee you they crossed all their T’s and dotted all their I’s so don’t fret, all is well with the XFL!
What do you think? After all this do you still think they robbed the logo? Let us know in the comments!
