Former JMU Head Coach Mickey Matthews Joining XFL Dallas Staff

According to a report by Pro Football Scoop, former James Madison head coach Mickey Matthews will be joining the XFL Dallas staff under head coach Bob Stoops. Matthews will reportedly be on the defensive side of the ball coaching the outside linebackers.

Matthews was head coach at JMU (Division I-AA) for 15 seasons from 1999 to 2013. Finishing with a record of 109-71. His best season came in 2004 when JMU won their first Division I-AA national title over Montana.

He is best known for his 2010 win when the Dukes upset #13 ranked Virginia Tech in Blacksburg 21-16. James Madison finished 6-5 that season.

Matthews had coaching stops at Kansas State, West Texas State, UTEP, Houston, TCU, Southwest Texas State, Marshall, and Georgia. He also was the defensive coordinator at Coastal Carolina, Southwest Texas State, and Marshall.
